Google is rumored to reveal the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro at Google I/O 2023, its annual developer conference set to kick off on May 10th, as well as the Pixel 7a, its upcoming midrange smartphone. Now, we have our first look at the Pixel 8 Pro thanks to @OnLeaks and Smartprix, who have shared CAD-based renders of the device.[0]

The Pixel 8 Pro measures 162.6 x 76.5 x 8.7 mm and is about 12 mm thick when including the camera bump. It has a large 6.52-inch flat display and is slightly smaller than the Pixel 7 Pro due to its rounded display corners. The power and volume buttons are on the right side and the USB Type-C port, speaker, and SIM tray are on the bottom.[1]

The camera bar includes a triple camera setup merged into one lozenge-shaped cluster, and there’s an additional sensor to the right.[2] It is unknown what this sensor is for, but it could be for depth-sensing, autofocus, or a LiDAR sensor.[3]

Under the hood, the Pixel 8 Pro is expected to be powered by a new Google Tensor processor produced by Samsung, the Tensor G3 chipset, built on the unannounced Samsung Exynos 2300 CPU and 3nm node technology.[4] This chipset is an upgrade from the 5nm die used in the Pixel 6 and 7 and will provide improved speed and better power efficiency.

The Pixel 8 Pro renders show a design that looks similar to the Pixel 7 Pro but with some obvious and welcome changes, such as a flatter display and a more rounded design.[0] We can also see antenna lines on the frame, suggesting that the phone will come with a metal chassis.[5]

The Pixel 8 Pro has been rumored to be unveiled in either September or October this year. While other details are still unclear, we can be sure that Google will give us a first official look at the Pixel 8 series during Google I/O 2023.

0. “Google Pixel 8 Pro adds a mysterious new sensor, flat display in first leaked renders” 9to5Google, 14 Mar. 2023, https://9to5google.com/2023/03/14/google-pixel-8-pro-leak

1. “Google Pixel 8 design renders revealed ahead of it’s expected to be unveiled at the Google I/O 2023” The Tech Outlook, 15 Mar. 2023, https://www.thetechoutlook.com/news/new-release/gadgets-release/mobile/google-pixel-8-design-renders-revealed-ahead-of-its-expected-to-be-unveiled-at-the-google-i-o-2023/

2. “Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 renders leak” TrustedReviews, 15 Mar. 2023, https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/pixel-8-pro-and-pixel-8-renders-leak-4308985

3. “Google Pixel 8 Pro will receive a completely flat display and an updated design of the camera unit” Mezha.Media, 15 Mar. 2023, https://mezha.media/en/2023/03/15/google-pixel-8-pro-will-receive-a-completely-flat-display-and-an-updated-design-of-the-camera-unit/

4. “Alleged Google Pixel 8 Pro Renders Surface, Pixel 7a & Pixel Fold Launch Date Also Leaked” Pocketnow, 14 Mar. 2023, https://pocketnow.com/pixel-8-pro-renders-pixel-7a-fold-launch-date-leaked/
