Google set to release two new smartphones: Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold

Google is set to release two new smartphones in the coming months: the Pixel 7a and the Pixel Fold.[0] The Pixel 7a, which will be the successor to the Pixel 6a and is expected to be widely available for purchase within 24 hours of its launch on May 10, has been priced at $499 according to a leaked report from a retail source.[1] However, some critics have argued that the Pixel 7a may offer less value than expected at this price point, especially considering that the previous iteration, the Pixel 6a, is expected to remain available for purchase at a reduced price point.

The Pixel Fold, on the other hand, is Google's first foray into the foldable smartphone market, and is expected to be priced at over $1,700, making it the most expensive smartphone in Google's series.[2] It will compete directly with Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold devices, which have already established themselves as the leaders in the foldable smartphone market. While there have been concerns about the durability of foldable smartphones, Google claims that the Pixel Fold will have “the most durable hinge on a foldable phone”.

In terms of specifications, the Pixel 7a will come with a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 64 MP primary camera and a 13 MP ultrawide sensor, the Tensor G2 SoC, and wireless charging support.[3] The Pixel Fold, on the other hand, will feature a 5.8-inch exterior display and a 7.6-inch interior folding display, and will be powered by Google's Tensor G2 chip.[4] It will weigh slightly more than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 4 but will feature a bigger battery that's good for 24 hours of use.[5]

Overall, the release of both the Pixel 7a and the Pixel Fold is highly anticipated by Google fans, who are eager to see how the company's latest smartphones stack up against the competition. While the Pixel 7a may face some criticism for its pricing, the continued availability of the Pixel 6a at a reduced price point may provide a more budget-friendly option for consumers. Meanwhile, the Pixel Fold's entry into the foldable smartphone market is expected to provide some much-needed competition for Samsung, which has dominated the category thus far.

Both smartphones are expected to be unveiled at Google I/O on May 10, with the Pixel 7a becoming available for purchase within 24 hours of its launch, and the Pixel Fold set to launch in June.[6] With their impressive specs and features, both smartphones are sure to make waves in the world of mobile technology.
