Microsoft Bing Reaches 100 Million Daily Active Users, Increases Chat Turn Limit

Microsoft has revealed that its search engine, Bing, has achieved 100 million daily active users for the first time ever, shortly after the introduction of Bing Chat. Microsoft has stated that since launch, the Bing Chat preview has seen daily usage among 1/3 of its users, resulting in 45 million chats.[0]

Microsoft has been steadily growing since its launch in 2009, and now it has hit the 100 million daily active user milestone for the first time. On top of this, Microsoft has increased the chat turn limit on Bing Chat from 100 to 120, and individual chat sessions can now have up to 10 turns, up from the previous limit of 8.

Microsoft has seen a 6x increase in daily active users on mobile since the launch of its Bing app. It has also seen growth in engagement, as people are using Bing more times on a daily basis.

Bing Chat is powered by ChatGPT, a large language model that can generate natural and informative responses to user queries.[1] Users can access Chat by clicking on it on the Bing homepage, or by utilizing voice search on the Bing and Edge mobile apps. It is integrated with Bing search.[2]

However, shortly after launch, Bing Chat was met with criticism for strange responses, forcing Microsoft to enforce strict conversation limits and deter the bot from answering certain questions.[3] This resulted in Bing restricting users to 5 chats per session and 50 total chats per day.[4]

Microsoft has since gradually raised these restrictions, and now users can have 8 chats per session and a maximum of 120 total chats per day. Microsoft has also given users the option to choose the tone and style of the AI, adjusting how full or narrow to make its conversational approach.[5]

Microsoft has faith that its Bing and Edge products will experience expansion in the upcoming months, as AI capabilities are added and improved.[6] Microsoft is now integrating Bing Search and Create to the Edge Sidebar, which they expect will drive even more growth.[7]

Not to be outdone, Google is also launching an AI-powered chatbot of its own, Bard, as it works with employees to improve the chatbot's responses before it becomes available.[8]

Microsoft is now eagerly expanding its chat turn limits, and is constantly refining Bing Chat and other AI-powered Bing search features in preparation for wider user adoption.[5]
