Apple’s Major Update: iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4, macOS Ventura 13.3, WatchOS 9.4, and tvOS 16.4

Apple is set to release its major update iOS 16.4, iPadOS 16.4, macOS Ventura 13.3, watchOS 9.4, and tvOS 16.4 in late March or early April.[0] This update will bring a range of new features to iPhone and iPad, such as 31 new emoji characters, including left and right hand options in several skin tones, and the ability to add websites and web apps to the Home Screen from third-party browsers. Apple TV users can also download tvOS 16.4 Beta 4 from the Apple Developer Center.[1]

The update also brings a return to the traditional “curl” page-turning animation in Apple Books and an updated Apple Podcasts interface.[2] iPhone and iPad users can now get Safari Web Push notifications from websites that have been pinned to their Home Screen.[3]

Moreover, developers participating in the beta can download the latest builds via the Apple Developer Center, or by updating hardware already running the beta operating systems.[3] Following the release of the developer versions, public beta versions are released and can be accessed through Apple's Beta Software Program, allowing the public to try them out.[4] Music app interface has been slightly modified in the first iOS 16.4 beta by introducing a small banner near the bottom of the screen instead of a full-screen pop-up.[5]

The update also adds 5G Standalone for T-Mobile users in the United States, Brazilian carriers Vivo and TIM Brazil, and Japanese carrier Softbank. This capability can deliver speeds of up to 3Gbps.[6] Additionally, users of iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max can set a Focus Filter now for Always On Display in the iOS 16.4 beta 1.[7] This could come in handy if you prefer Always On Display to be enabled at work and disabled at home.[8]
