Apple Watch Ultra with MicroLED Display to Release by 2024/2025

Rumors have been circulating that Apple will be releasing a new Apple Watch Ultra with a microLED display by 2024 or 2025. This news comes from multiple sources, including Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young, and Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu.

Gurman has said that the transition to microLED could begin by the end of 2024 or early 2025, while Young gave a 2025 timeframe.[0] Meanwhile, a report from DigiTimes says that Apple's pricier Apple Watch will feature the technology in the future, and that the rollout will eventually expand to include iPhones, iPads, and Mac models.[1]

The challenge with producing microLED technology is that the manufacturing costs are high, which is why Apple is rolling it out on the smallest device before scaling to larger devices. The report from DigiTimes also says that the new Apple Watch Ultra will likely have a 2.1-inch microLED display, which will be larger than the current 1.9-inch display of the Ultra model.

European company OSRAM will be the primary supplier of microLED chips for Apple, while Taiwanese suppliers like Epistar could become additional suppliers of microLED chips by 2026-2027.

In conclusion, the new Apple Watch Ultra with microLED display is expected to release in 2024 or 2025, with Apple also planning to roll out the technology to iPhones, iPads, and Macs as well. European company OSRAM will be the primary supplier of microLED chips, while Taiwanese suppliers could become additional suppliers in the upcoming years.
