Microsoft 365 Copilot: Revolutionizing the Way We Work with AI

Microsoft has announced Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI-powered tool designed to assist users with various tasks within Microsoft Office apps.[0] The Copilot, powered by GPT-4 from OpenAI, will sit alongside Microsoft 365 apps in the sidebar as a chatbot and enable users to generate text in documents, create PowerPoint presentations from Word documents, and more.[1] The company is currently testing it with 20 customers and plans to reveal pricing and further details in the coming months.

The AI-powered tool will allow users to do a variety of tasks such as drafting emails and PowerPoint presentations, generating ideas in Word, and summarizing key points during meetings via Teams.[2] It will also assist users in Excel by helping to unlock insights, identify trends and create professional-looking data visualizations in a fraction of the time.[3]

Jared Spataro, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President for Modern Work and Business Applications, said: “Copilot combines the power of large language models with your data and apps to turn your words into the most powerful productivity tool on the planet. By grounding in your business content and context, Copilot delivers results that are relevant and actionable. It’s enterprise-ready, built on Microsoft’s comprehensive approach to security, compliance, privacy and responsible AI. Copilot marks a new era of computing that will fundamentally transform the way we work.”[4]

The technology behind the world's most talked about artificial intelligence (AI) system, ChatGPT, is being added to Microsoft 365.[5] This follows the company's announcement of AI-powered features for Bing and Microsoft Teams earlier this year.[6] Microsoft is looking to reinvent productivity with AI and bring generative artificial intelligence technologies to its Microsoft 365 suite of business software.

The Future of Work with AI event will be livestreamed on March 16 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.[7] The event is anticipated to be broadcast live on the corporation's YouTube channel too.[8] Microsoft will showcase the many ways that it looks to implement Copilot into its existing Office ecosystem and how it can help users with various tasks within the Office apps.[9]

Microsoft 365 Copilot has the potential to revolutionize the way we all work and it is expected to be available to the public in the coming months.[10]
