Snapdragon 8 Gen 3: What to Expect with the Nothing Phone (2) and Galaxy S24 Series

During Mobile World Congress 2023, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon and Nothing founder Carl Pei announced that the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) would be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 series processor.[0] Although Pei did not confirm the exact chip, it is believed that the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. This advanced version of the Snapdragon 8 series promises improved single-core performance and an integrated X75 5G modem.

The Nothing Phone (2) is set to launch in Q3 this year, and is expected to offer a more premium experience compared to the Phone (1).[1] The Phone (1) is a budget-friendly device that starts from SGD779 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model and SGD959 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option. The Phone (2) is expected to feature 12 GB RAM and 256 GB ROM, as well as a 120 Hz OLED display and a 5000 mAh battery.[2]

Aside from the Phone (2), Nothing is also gearing up for the launch of its next-gen truly wireless earbuds, the Nothing Ear (2).[3] This device will be released on March 22, and is expected to offer improved sound and clarity along with its iconic transparent design.[4]

If you are considering getting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone this year, you can expect improved performance and power efficiency. The 8 Gen 3 is expected to offer an even better experience, with a Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at up to 3.72GHz and an Adreno 750 GPU.[5] It is also believed to have a 1+4+3 CPU core configuration, along with support for UFS 4.1 mobile storage solution and the latest RAM standard.[6]

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series is off to a good start, and it is likely that the upcoming Galaxy S24 series will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.[7] This could give Android devices a competitive edge against iPhones, and it remains to be seen if Samsung will work with Qualcomm on a unique variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 dedicated to Galaxy smartphones.

For now, we can only wait and see what the future holds for Nothing and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In the meantime, check out our review video for the Galaxy S23 series for more details about the performance of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered phone.
