The Last of Us is a Finalist for the 2023 World Video Game Hall of Fame
On March 15, 2023, The Strong National Museum of Play announced the 12 finalists for the 2023 World Video Game Hall of Fame.[0] From these finalists, the public and experts will vote to decide which four will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a virtual ceremony on Thursday, May 4.[1] Notable entries include Wii Sports, GoldenEye 007, Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Barbie Fashion Designer, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Computer Space, FIFA International Soccer, The Last of Us, NBA 2K, Quake, and Wizardry.[2]
The Last of Us, released by Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2013, has seen a surge in popularity due to its adaptation into a series by HBO, and it is now one of the finalists for the Hall of Fame.[3] The Strong National Museum of Play described the game as “jumping into an oversaturated field of post-apocalyptic zombie games and quickly stood out among the rest with its in-depth storytelling, intimate exploration of humanity, thrilling game jumps and cutscenes, and its memorable characters.”[3]
Past inductees into the Hall of Fame include Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Bros.[2] The public and experts will now have to decide if The Last of Us will join these esteemed titles when the final inductees are announced on May 4.
