Strong National Museum of Play Announces 2023 World Video Game Hall of Fame Finalists

On Wednesday, the Strong National Museum of Play announced the 12 finalists for the 2023 World Video Game Hall of Fame.[0] These include Age of Empire, Angry Birds, Barbie Fashion Designer, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Computer Space, FIFA International Soccer, GoldenEye 007, NBA 2K, The Last of Us, Wii Sports, Quake and Wizardry.[1] Previous recipients of induction include Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Super Mario Bros.[1]

Experts and the general public will cast their votes to choose which of the finalists will be inducted during a virtual ceremony hosted by the Strong Museum on Thursday, May 4.[2] The game's spike in popularity after HBO adapted it into a series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey has increased its chances of being selected for the Hall of Fame.[3] The Strong National Museum of Play commented that The Last of Us, launched in 2013 by Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment, managed to stand out in the crowded market of post-apocalyptic zombie games. It achieved this feat due to its compelling story, insightful look into humanity, intense jump scares and cutscenes, and its unforgettable characters.[3][1]

The Strong will announce the class of 2023 on May 4 and will induct four into the Hall of Fame following a selection process that includes a public vote and a vote by the International Selection Advisory Committee.[0]
