Apple Analyst Predicts Redesigned HomePod with 7-inch Panel, Possible iPad Panel Production for Tianma
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that Apple will soon be releasing a redesigned HomePod boasting a 7-inch panel, which would enable tighter integration with the company’s other hardware products.[0] This marks a significant shift in Apple’s smart home strategy, and the display panel is to be supplied by Chinese company Tianma.[1]
Kuo wrote on Medium that the new HomePod is likely to debut in the first half of 2024, and the display panel will be produced by Tianma, who specializes in providing display solutions and associated support services worldwide. Kuo believes that if the HomePod venture is successful, Apple could join forces with Tianma to manufacture displays for its potential iPads.
Bloomberg had previously reported that Apple is working on a combined Apple TV and HomePod device, as well as a low-end iPad that can control various IoT devices and can be used for video chats.[2] Kuo's prediction echoes this report, with his prediction of a HomePod with an integrated display to control HomeKit devices, make FaceTime calls, and more.
Kuo also says Tianma will be a major supplier of displays for Apple going forward, and it might also be tasked with manufacturing iPad panels in the future. He believes that the company's long-term prospects in Apple’s supply chain look promising, and it would start with low-end products before gradually increasing shipment allocation and moving to higher-end Apple devices.[3]
Kuo adds that if the HomePod with display endeavor goes well, then Tianma's next orders from the tech giant might be iPad panels. This would be a great opportunity for the Chinese firm to make its mark in the Apple supply chain.
